Significant Pieces of Architecture

San Cristobal Stables- Luis Barragan

In 1967-68, Barragan erected San Cristobal, a private estate consisting of a stable, horse pool, swimming pool, and house. Colour plays an important role in this ensemble, with pink, red and purple, drawing attention to the minimalist elements of the design and at the same time providing relief from their starkness. His architecture is elivened and humanised by the addition of colour.

I find this a beautiful and interesting piece of architecture. The images are amazing and I would like to incorporate these ideas into not only my poster, but my designs as well.

Olivetti Showroom- Carlo Scarpa

Carlo Scarpa was an Italian designer, influenced by the materials, landscape, and the history of venetian culture. His architecture is deeply sensitive to the changes of time, from seasons to history, rooted in a sensuous material imagination. Scarpa was obsessed with craft and concrete and made materials do things they were never intended to do. The Olivetti Showroom is very beautiful and unique. Scarpa's devotion was to design things more elaborate than they need to be, making really heavy things seem light. It is very expensive architecture and contrats dark with light.
I find Scarpa's architecture interesting and quite beautiful. He takes a lot of attention to detail and his thinking and craftsmenship is out of this world. I intend to incorporate this ideas into my own designs.
